Milestones/ major achievements in last fifty two years
a) Museum
  • Excellent museum with 311 specimens & extraordinary specimens of comparative Anatomy.
  • 231 models including gross anatomy, embryology and histology.
  • Best quality models showing development of embryo and models showing anatomy of larynx, lungs, liver, midde ear, microscopic structure of stomach etc.
b) Dissection Hall
  • Spacious dissection hall with ample number of cadavers.
  • For Embalming of cadavers Embalming machine & Gravity method is used in this department.
  • Embalmed cadavers are stored in tanks containing 10% formalin.
  • For medico-legal cases separate maceration room is available.
  • Large number of Bone sets are available in the dept. of which many are given to the students for study on loan basis.
  • Articulated skeletons are available for study.
  • Body cutting machine is available which is helpful for study of sectional Anatomy.
  • This department has specimens of different regions of body including cross sections
c) Histology Laboratory
  • Well equipped histology laboratory with more than three thousand five hundred slides.
  • Equipments such as microtomes, incubator, automatic knife sharpner, water bath etc necessary for section cutting, staining & research.
  • There are 100 monocular microscopes, 08 binocular microscope & 20 dissecting microscopes, so that every student can study on separate microscope.
  • Slide projector, OHP, LCD projector, Laptop facilities are available for projection.

  • Medico-legal cases-
    • Medico-legal cases from four districts viz. Sangli,Kolhapur,Ratnagiri & Sindhudurg are examined and expert opinion is given.
  • Lectures for Nursing & Medical electronics students.
  • Participation in social activities to promote body donation campaign.
  • A certificate of honour is awarded to the persons willing for body donation.
  • Provision of specimens & cadavers to other departments like Orthopedics, E.N.T.,OB-GY, Anaesthesia for education & research purpose.
  • Visits of schools are arranged for better understanding of body organs.
  • Anatomy department actively participate in health Exhibitions.
Research
  • More than sixty research projects have been completed with publications in national and international journals.
  • Eight research projects are currently undergoing in the department.
  • National level workshop on Nerve Block in collaboration with ISSP (Indian Society for Study of Pain in February 2007.
  • National level workshop on ‘Head and Neck cadaveric dissection in collaboration with S.C.A. (Society for Clinical Anatomy) F.H.N.O. (Foundation Head and Neck Oncology) A.O.I. (Association of Otolaryngology, India) and E.N.T. Dept. of G.M.C.Miraj in July 2012

  • Anthropometric instruments like osteometric board, vernier calipers, pelvimeter, craniometer, microtomes, incubator, automatic knife sharpner, water bath, distilled water plant etc are available to carry out research work.
