Inception of The Department
Department was established in 1969 under the guidance of Dr. D. P. Karmarkar sir. Initially 10 bedded pediatric ward was established in Medicine ward & then slowly over the period of 2-3 years 30 bedded separate pediatric ward was initially started at District Hospital Sangli& later in GMCH Miraj with all UG & PG teaching facilities. At the same time under the guidance of Dr. Mohan Rao & Dr. Vishalaxi separate pediatric unit was established at Wanless Mission Hospital Miraj which was attached to GMC Mirajupto 2004.

Today Pediatrics department is one of the leading department in college for academic achievements , patient care and conducts many useful workshops / CME’s for students.

  • Conducted one Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS/ALS) & three Basic life support (BLS) courses at Government Medical College Miraj for interns & pediatricians
  • Conducted TOT Workshop for IMNCI at Government Medical College Miraj (2011)

  • Neonatal Intensive Care unit: with all equipment’s for management of High risk newborns like warmers, phototherapy, ventilators, multipara, pulseoxy meter, facility for exchange transfusion, peritoneal dialysis.
  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit: with all equipment’s like ventilators, multipara, pulseoxy meterfor management of critically ill child like GBS, Snakebite, Scorpian sting, shock, respiratoryfailure, renal failure etc.

  • Dr. S. S. Wagh is faculty for training of Medical Officers for Diarrhea Management
  • Dr. Bhavesh Shah & Dr. Uday Rajput are National trainer for West zone of India for PALS & BLS courses.
  • Dr. Uday Rajput has done Advance MET course of 6 months conducted by MET cell MUHS Nashik.
Future Plans
  • Increasing postgraduate seats to 3 M.D & 3 D.C.H
  • Establishment of Pediatric Hemodialysis unit
  • Establishment of SAM ward
