History

Anesthesia was provided in GMC Miraj since the establishment of College in 1962.PVPGH(PadmbhushanVasantdadaPatilGovt Hospital) was affiliated to GMC Miraj In1973 where anesthesia was provided by Trained Medical Officers and Available staff till 1981 when Qualified anesthesiologist were made available.

In 1985, Shivaji university and Maharashtra Medical Council permitted Diploma Course in anesthesiology and every year 4 students were admitted, 10 students were awarded Diploma in Anesthesiology degree by Shivaji university in 1988. From 1990 MD was permitted after MCI inspection.

Every year 4 MD and 8 DA students used to get admitted and per teacher 1 MD and 2 DA students were allotted. Up to 2004, Work was divided in two places i.e. Wanless Hospital Miraj and PVPGH Sangli but there after till date GMC Miraj and PVPGH Sangli became the working institutions,where work is carried out in two OT Complexes. GMC Miraj having 9 well equipped operation theatres and PVPGH have 7 operation theatres .In 2011, 4 MD and 4 Diploma seats were recognized by MCI.
